More floor

Work is progressing! Although I am nervous that day 2 into the 2 week reno? I am ready to have it DONE and I want my house back.

From yesterday, here is the newer flooring (only 50 years old) with the original stain on top and then the new stain and stain colours on the bottom. I believe Nick is using a "natural" stain. So no extra tones. To the left is the existing stain colour on the oldest wood. So. Much. Better.

Today Nick is doing edges. The big machine isn't delicate enough for the sides. Dining room, edged! There is the sitting room, foyer and playroom upstairs to go.

While Nick does the edges, Neil is helping out by digging up the old filler. When the new filler is added, it isn't filling the spaces of the old filler so it looks... spotty. Chunky. And it's ok, but it's not ideal. So Neil and Nick and making it perfect.

But because this is US, there is a hiccup. OF COURSE. The wood floors downstairs had slightly wider boards compared to upstairs. But that was just the floors? From 95 years ago?

Nope.

F*ck.

The wood on the main floor is newer. Like 30 years old new? So the closed in office may have older wood than the rest? We need to talk to the neighbours... Future blog post. But there are several finishes left in the wood. Six or seven!

Although the fact that these are newer floors? Makes me wonder why they are so utterly wavy. 95 year old floors? Sure! 30 year old floors? Why? OH WHY?

And the filler between the boards? Not wood filer. Spackling compound. For walls. That was tinted. No wonder it didn't look right.

But the rooms upstairs are original. And the boards are thin... only a finish or two left.

And this family will NOT be the ones refinishing them again.
