House numbers - COVID project two

About a year ago? Longer? Neil was walking up a street near ours and noticed a house, being slated for demolition. Since there, 2 new skinnies were built. And are being lived in.

But that house? That was there? Shared an address with us. And our current numbers? Are NOT  in keeping with the aesthetic of the home. We have been meaning to replace them. And the ones on the demo house? Perfection! Neil called the number on the demolition permit. Offered to buy them. And was instead told to just go grab them. So off her went, with his screwdriver. Likely getting strange looks for the people walking by as he walked up and took the numbers.

Perfection!

Not perfection.

Since then, I tried to figure out what to put them on. We have vinyl siding (right now). So a board? Then I bought a board. But it needed to be stained whiter, to see the numbers from the street. And then we lost the screws. And then I started staining a practice board. Then gave up because it wasn't perfect. But now? Staining the board it my next COVID mini-project!

Bare board, and then with some attempts.

And with a coat. Super light. It was pretty perfect. And then I dripped on it, when I got distracted. And so there are marks... <sigh>

With numbers! I think that will work. And be seen from the sidewalk!

Close up of the grain.

And now? I need poly. Or something to protect it from the elements. Which I don't have, and shouldn't go out to get.

THEN I can put the numbers on.

THEN I can get the old numbers off

THEN I can put the new numbers on.

But one step closer. And another project done!
