Project three. Let there be light (switches)

About a year ago I started a project to replace the mis-matched and hideous modern light switches with push button ones. Found a bunch on kijiji along with some authentic old cover plates. The front entry is done. The sitting room. The dining room. The front hallway.

And then two of the four rooms upstairs got the switches (not the bathroom.yet). But for the fourth one? I needed a plate cover for it. I had single switch overs. And quadruple. But was lacking a double.

Bought a switch cover off one of my favourite sites, House of antique Hardware. And then? They all sat there. In a bag. In the buffet. For a year.

Today's project? GET THAT DONE.

Before
And the one on the right? Even LIT UP. Shiny, wrong shape.

Half way done. One in, one to go.

And FINISHED. The upstairs is done. Until the time that we tackle the bathroom.

The switches and plate are new. But look appropriate to the house. This project hung over my head for a long time. It is NOT hard. It's just tedious. I needed Neil in the basement to find the breaker. The breakers are BADLY labelled. And it's simple? But electrical in a nearly 100 year old house? A little scary. We know there is one room with knob and tube. The rest seem new? But we have no idea how far into the walls they are new. But other than the box being sort of... loose? It was a simple switch! Of the switches.

And here is a new switch with the truly vintage plate. This one is in the hall.

The old ones look better. Neater patina. But House of Antique Hardware is the bomb. And has bridged a gap in our silly old home.
