Unprecedented times... and small projects
It's an unprecedented time. Global pandemic. Being asked to stay at home. Avoid others. Stop the spread of COVID-19.
Thankfully we are in our dream home... our forever home... as this happens. At the last place? We would be on top of each other. It would have been hard.
But here? I am in the front room, at my little desk. Neil has a sweet set up in the basement. And Madeline has her space in the family room. Space from each other. Spaces that we have set up to work for us, as we all work and learn from home.
But while here? I am going to try to accomplish one of the little, un-fun, seemingly constantly delayed projects we have. Removing old curtains. Caulking things. Little electrical changes. Purging ALL THE STUFF.
Yesterday's project? Removing the front room blinds! Hard to take a picture, when they are back-lit. But here's an attempt.

Yesterday's project? Removing the front room blinds! Hard to take a picture, when they are back-lit. But here's an attempt.
When they were open. And they were ALWAYS Like this. Blocked some light. Blocked some of the wavy glass.
I do believe this is the first (and only) time they were fully shut. No reason to block things. Made the room SO dark.
They were installed so strangely! The fabric was velcroed on to a plywood board. And then the ropes went through eye hooks? Everything was (deeply) screwed into the original sashes.
And two of the tree down. SO MUCH BETTER. More light, better framing of the gorgeous windows.
For our front windows, they are original. But two of the three panes are newer glass. The far left is still gorgeously wavy. But the middle and right are as still as... new glass.
Fun story, not sure I shared? But two different dogs, decades apart, crashed through the glass panes. The first, pre-1990 when the family was out and someone was breaking into the house across the way. The dog was so upset he tried to get through the centre glass to save the house. Apparently, when the family came home there were little bloody footprints all over. But, the puppy was fine in the end. Although the little odl lady, who left all her money in the mattresses since she didn't trust banks, lost it all.
Last owners also had a dog. That would bark? Not sure the details of THAT story. But the pupper too burst through a pane of glass. The right one.
Our girl? She mostly just sneezes on the glass. Leaving dribbles that dry... but so far has never tried to burst through. Thankfully.

Not sure what today's project will be... but it will be something.
